The Buzz: Interesting Headlines & Stories
This Black Mayor’s comment sparked a Justice Department investigation.
THE BUZZ!
We are heading to Chi-Town to find out why Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is catching all this heat. It seems that the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division is opening an investigation into the city of Chicago after the Mayor’s comments.
Well what did he say you might ask? Well, he made some comments about having black leadership in his administration. More specifically, he said, “Yes, I’m hiring Black folks in leadership positions.” He shouted out his deputy mayor, COO, and budget director, all whom are black. But his message was that when we’re at the table, we look out for everybody.
That didn’t sit well with some folks. Like the Assistant Attorney General who wrote in a letter to Johnson posted on X that she had “authorized an investigation” into whether Chicago is “engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination.”
Well, the mayor’s office said in a statement that the Mayor is proud to have the most diverse administration in the history of our city. “Our administration reflects the diversity and values of Chicago. Unfortunately, the current federal administration does not reflect either.”
