Beyoncé’s Dad: CMA Snub is a “White and Black Thing”
THE BUZZ!
Mathew Knowles on Beyoncé CMA Snub Is ‘White and Black Thing’ …There’s a Dark History Here
We have to give Beyoncé her props. After entering the world of country music she has delivered. Her album Cowboy Carter has done very well and was one of the better country albums this year. So very surprising to see that she received zero nominations for this year’s Country Music Awards. One person who wasn’t surprised at all, her Dad. Mathew Knowles allegedly told TMZ he thinks race is a factor. He says Beyoncé had a bad experience at the CMA Awards in 2016 when she performed with the Dixie Chicks. The audience wasn’t too happy about her inclusion, and the CMAs never apologized.
Now, Beyoncé has one of the biggest country albums of the year, but Mathew says the voters are still “showing it still comes down to white and black.” He’s not calling anyone racist, but he says the snub “speaks for itself.”
Bey’s Dad had this gem to drop to all country music aficionados. He said the banjo, an instrument often associated with country music, actually comes from Africa. This shows that country music is actually derived from African culture.
Interesting side note, the artist Shaboozey featured on Beyonce’s album is nominated for two awards. Including best new artist and single of the year. He even thanked her on social media for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!
And artist Post Malone, who also released his first country album this year and collaborated with Beyoncé on “Cowboy Carter,” received four nominations.
I wonder if Bey will do another Country music album. We’ll see.
