Nationwide Meat Recall Over Listeria Contamination Fears

A massive meat recall is happening due to concerns about listeria contamination. A Oklahoma-based company is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products.
The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) found that BrucePac’s ready-to-eat chicken was contaminated with Listeria, a harmful bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
Contaminated products were shipped nationwide to restaurants and institutions. A complete list of affected products is not yet available; however, all affected items were created between June 19, 2024 and October 8, 2024.
The good news is that there haven’t been any confirmed illnesses yet. The not so good news is that Listeria is particularly dangerous. It can survive in refrigerators and freezers, and infected foods may not look, smell or taste different. Not to mention that human contact and poor sanitation can spread illness when contaminated food is handled.
Even more reason to be cautious. The CDC adds that listeria is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness across the country.
